Have you ever stepped inside a time machine? Been transported to another era?
We do every time we interview for this project, it’s an amazing experience we are truly greatful for.
We hear about the struggles of living in wagons, the internal fight families had of letting go of the horse drawn wagons (Vardos) for the motorised vehicle and caravan. How some modernised quite early way back in the 30/40s but other families clung on till later.
Well today we stepped into a new type of Time Machine.
Part of our Exhibit will be an installation by Violet Cannon. The installation will draw together the images and stories captured, those memories that have been stored in suitcases under a bed or bunk. For the installation we require a large amount of suitcases. Despite a number of call outs for donations we are struggling. But today we managed to source 8 from a antique store that knows one or two members of the Yorkshire Gypsy and Traveller communities.
They kindly gave us a rather hefty discount and we got to wander around the little time machine.
So we just wanted to thank The Coach House on Bondgate in Pontefract, they also stand Doncaster Market on Wednesday.
For their support of our project and the glimpse into the past.
