I understand peoples trepidation at the idea of this project.
I get it, no really I do.
We have been laughed at, ridiculed, exposed and basically shown up by the media.
Yes we tried to get involved, We tried to have our say, but it got messed up and edited so our words were misrepresented.
So why will this be any different?
This project is run by us. We have the final say, the museums have input yes, Doncaster CVS have input, the steering group have input
(btw, if you are A Doncaster Gypsy or Traveller and what to be involved, contact us )
but ultimately, it is the individual who owns the images, the artifacts and the stories,
Now lets be honest, your stuff might not make it into the museum, it might not make it into the book, but some will get on here.
With your words and what you say was happening at that time, Not what some media big wig wants you to say.
Now I will admit, I do have my own ideas about “who we are”, however I want you to see that as a positive, I don’t want this project to tell of my history, or even my idea of a Gypsies history, I want honest funny, light hearted, hurtful but importantly truthful histories.
Stories of the war, of living in houses, of woman working, of anything that you want the world and future generations to know
we are looking at the time frame between 1900-2000 and its concentrated on Doncaster.
Please take the time to at least think, take the time to share.
Make sure our names and our stories do not become forgotten and lost.
